Meet George Edwards, CPA


George Edwards, CPA is a U.S. Army veteran and summa cum laude graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. A Certified Public Accountant, he retired from ExxonMobil Corporation in January 2020 after a 39-year career. He currently serves as a deacon at Second Baptist Church in Katy, Texas.

In 1995, George was elected to the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District Board of Trustees, where he served as Vice President. During his tenure, he called for the decisive vote that ended year-round school in Cy-Fair ISD—ensuring a more stable and consistent academic calendar for students and families.

From 1999 to 2010, George served on the State Bar of Texas Board of Directors, where he was also a member of the Commission for Lawyer Discipline, Chair of the Law-Focused Education Committee, and a Trustee of the Texas Bar Foundation, later serving as Chair of its Investment Committee.

A proven leader beyond education, George chaired Leadership Houston Class XXI and was honored with the prestigious Patrice Johnson Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2003. While at ExxonMobil, he received the Corporate Leadership Award from the Minerals Management Service for upholding the highest standards in Federal and Indian oil and gas royalty reporting.

George is a former Chairman of the Board of Directors of Energy Capital Credit Union and continues to serve as chair of its Asset Liability Committee. He is also a Trustee on the Board of the Neuhaus Education Center, a nonprofit dedicated to improving reading skills for children, and was elected to the Towne Lake Homeowners Association Board of Directors in June 2022.

George and his wife, DeBra, are the proud parents of three accomplished sons. The joys of their lives are their beloved granddaughters.

Scholarships with Purpose: Blueprint for Tomorrow’s Leaders

George Edwards believes that true leadership is measured not only by professional accomplishments, but also by the impact one makes in the lives of others. His lifelong commitment to education and community service is reflected in his philanthropic work—especially in creating opportunities for students to succeed.

In 2022, George established two scholarships that continue to make a difference:

  • The George Edwards Endowed Scholarship at the University of Southern Mississippi — providing ongoing financial support to help students achieve their academic dreams.
 
  • The George Edwards Cy-Fair ISD Scholarship — awarded to outstanding local students in recognition of academic achievement, leadership, and service. Since its creation, George has awarded three scholarships to deserving CFISD students.
 

Through these scholarships, George invests directly in the future—helping the next generation of leaders, innovators, and community builders gain the education they need to thrive.
